This year will mark the first time ever that drones take off as cargo carriers in the USA. This after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded the first air carrier certification to a drone delivery company.
Google’s Wing Aviation will start providing commercial deliveries by cargo drones later this year in rural Virginia.
According to Elaine L. Chao, the secretary of the US department of transportation, “this is an important step forward for the safe testing and integration of drones into our economy.”
Wing can carry loads of up to 1,5kg using commercial electric drones powered by 14 propellers. The drones operate at around 120 metres in the air, at speeds of 120km per hour and with a flight range of around 120km.
Wing Aviation has been perfecting its service in Canberra Australia and now recently, Helsinki Finland through a trial drone delivery system.
